The Nuckolls County Historical Society held an annual meeting Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2022 at the Nuckolls County Museum in Superior, Nebraska. Historical Society Co-Chair Fred Meyers presided over the meeting attended by about 25 people. Secretary Camie Kroeger read the minutes of last year’s meeting and Treasurer Dave Healey gave the treasurer’s report. Mr. Meyers summarized some of the activities of the previous year and some of the aspirations for the up-coming year. The board expressed their thanks to Alfred Hanson, Esther Martin, Ron Schott, Janice Fullerton and Kelly Bouray for their years of service and dedication. With the departure of these members of the Board of Directors Meyers pointed out the need for new Board members. Anyone who is a Nuckolls County resident and a member of the Nuckolls County Historical Society is eligible and members of the Board of Directors are needed from all areas of Nuckolls County. After the business meeting Ms. Linda Simonsen, a former teacher at Superior High School gave a presentation on the history of the Native Americans of the Nuckolls County area, the Oregon Trail through our county and the causes of unrest among the Native Americans that resulted in several devastating raids in the 1860’s.
